Asia Cup 2023: PCB's Concerns Lead to Reserve Day for Pakistan-India Match

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had voiced several concerns regarding the adverse weather conditions in Sri Lanka and had raised objections regarding the impending weather forecast and the necessary rescheduling of the upcoming event. In response to the PCB's apprehensions, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has taken a decisive step by designating a contingency day. This reserve day will serve as a safeguard for the highly anticipated Pakistan-India match, initially slated for the 10th of September.

Should inclement weather disrupt the Pakistan-India encounter during the Asia Cup on the 10th of September, the match will seamlessly resume on the 11th of September, picking up from where it had previously halted. However, in the event that the match extends to the reserve day, it will create a demanding schedule for Team India. This is due to their subsequent fixture against Sri Lanka, scheduled for the 12th of September in the Asia Cup.

It is pertinent to emphasize that the Super Four matches of the Asia Cup are set to commence on the 9th of September in Colombo, where the participating teams of Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have already gathered in anticipation of the exciting tournament.

It is worth noting that a previous encounter between Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup, held at the Pallekele Stadium on the 2nd of September, had been regrettably canceled due to persistent rain. Consequently, this has heightened the sensitivity of both teams and organizers to potential weather-related disruptions during the tournament, prompting proactive measures such as the introduction of a reserve day for the marquee clash.
